The model for this composition was Rafaela. Lempicka met Rafaela in the Forest of Bourbon - a popular place in Paris for meeting prostitutes. "Beautiful Rafaela" posed for Lempicka many times over the following years, and Lempicka herself considered Rafaele to be her most beautiful model.
This makes Lempicka's words all the more significant: "I have painted kings and prostitutes. I paint those who are inspiring to me and make me feel vibrations."
