Excerpt:"... Battle for Volozhin. The Bolsheviks are fleeing, and they are fleeing so bravely that it is difficult to catch up with them. You can see, however, that they do not lose hope of stopping us. On the hill in front of Volozhin they stop and put up quite strong resistance. A new battle begins between the halted battle lines. Rising higher and higher in the sky, the July sun with its scorching heat coats our faces, blackens them with tan and burns our busy hands with work. Weary sweat beads up on our foreheads and in great drops rolls down onto our chests, which are tied with thongs from backpacks, pouches, canteens, maps and binoculars. But fatigue is not visible in any face. Eyes are smiling and looking proud, enjoying the work being done. It's as if a huge beehive is boiling on the battlefield. Amidst the swish of bullets the battle line is working hard...".
