Distillery description
Glenmorangie is a renowned Scottish distillery located in the Highlands, near the Dornoch Firth. Its name is derived from a Gaelic expression meaning "valley of calm." Originally established as a brewery for the town of Tain, it was converted into a distillery by William Matheson in 1843. Records indicate that by the late 19th century, Glenmorangie whisky was already being served in luxury hotels, such as The Savoy, underscoring its quality and reputation at that time. After a brief hiatus, Glenmorangie returned to the market as a single malt whisky in 1959 and quickly ascended to become the best-selling whisky in Scotland. The distillery is particularly famous for its tall 'giraffe' stills, which produce a fine, fruity, and sweet spirit. Dr. Bill Lumsden, known for his innovative approaches, has also spearheaded the creation of experimental limited editions that utilize different varieties of barley and various types of whisky barrels. Since 2004, Glenmorangie has been owned by the French luxury goods company Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH). Bottle description
