Distillery description
Inverleven was a Scottish distillery located in Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire, founded in 1938. It was part of the larger Dumbarton Distillery complex, primarily focused on grain whisky, while Inverleven specialized in single malt whisky. This arrangement was common in the 20th century, with several distilleries built within larger grain whisky complexes. Established by Hiram Walker & Sons, Inverleven primarily produced whisky for blended brands like Ballantine's and Teacher's. Known for its light and smooth style, Inverleven's whisky was ideal for blending. Unfortunately, the distillery closed in 1991, coinciding with the shutdown of the parent Dumbarton Distillery. Interestingly, some of Inverleven's equipment, including the unique Lomond still-designed for greater flexibility in producing various whisky styles-was retained and relocated to the new Bruichladdich distillery on the Isle of Islay. Although Inverleven never established itself as an independent brand of single malt whisky, its bottlings have appeared from independent bottlers and in limited editions. Today, these bottles are highly prized by collectors and whisky connoisseurs for their historical significance and unique character. Bottle description
