Distillery description
Millburn was a historic Scottish distillery located in Inverness, Highlands, and was founded around 1807. It stood as one of the oldest distilleries in the region, though it remained relatively small and lesser-known compared to some of Scotland's more prominent distilleries. Over its long history, Millburn underwent several reconstructions and upgrades. In 1921, it was acquired by Booth's Distillers, who operated it until 1937, when it became part of Distillers Company Limited (DCL), the predecessor of today's Diageo. Millburn was renowned for producing a rich, malty, and lightly smoked whisky, appreciated both as a single malt and as a component in blended whiskies. Like many smaller distilleries, it struggled during the whisky crisis of the 1980s and closed permanently in 1985. Although production has ceased, part of the original distillery buildings have been preserved and repurposed as a restaurant and hotel since 1990, a common fate for many former distilleries of the time. Millburn 1974 31 Years Old is a single malt whisky bottled by independent bottler Cadenhead's as part of their Closed Distilleries series. Distilled in 1974 and bottled at cask strength in May 2006 after 31 years of aging in bourbon hogshead casks, this whisky represents a piece of history from the now-defunct Millburn distillery.Nose: Rich with notes of fruit, vanilla, and oak.
