Distillery description
Glenturret is a Scottish distillery located in the Highlands, dating back to 1775 when the site was home to illegal whiskey production known as The Hosh. However, the distillery was not officially licensed until 1818, when John Drummond began legal whiskey production. The distillery has survived many challenges, including being dismantled during the 1920s due to difficult economic conditions. However, it was revived in 1960 by James Fairlie, who bought equipment from Tullibardine and re-established the distillery. At the same time, the company focused on tourism and became one of the first distilleries in Scotland to open a visitor center. In 2002, the visitor center was converted into The Famous Grouse Experience, making the distillery a center for promoting this blended whiskey until 2018, when it was sold to Glenturret Holding. Bottles of Glenturret single malt whiskey have been rare, although in 2015 there was an attempt to market three different versions. In 2020, under the leadership of former colleagues from the Macallan distillery-Bob Dalgarno (master blender) and Ken Grier (strategic consultant)-a rebranding took place, and new official bottlings are appearing on the market.
