Tuscany, Bolgheri

2014 was a difficult vintage in Tuscany, and the character of Ornellai 2014 is a direct result of the weather conditions that year. A cool ripening period culminating in a warm and sunny autumn results in a wine that is quite tightly complex, hiding a lot but not yet willing to show it. The quality and concentration comes directly from mature, old vines that bravely faced the inclement weather.
The bouquet features dark forest fruits, sweet spices, leather and tobacco. The finish is fresh and somewhat mineral. Given the wine's complexity, higher acidity and class, it can be quietly aged for 10, 15 years, hoping for a complete opening of the bouquet.
