watercolor, pencil, paper; 22.5 x 30.5 cm;
signed lower left: lenica
Provenance:
private collection, Poland
The space is organized into broad, nearly parallel bands of color. The small vertical accent of the figure and the red element at the edge are sufficient to maintain the scale of the depiction. Despite its clear subject matter, the composition comes across as an autonomous arrangement of color. The landscape demonstrates how Lenica was able to reduce the observed subject to a relationship of planes, rhythm, and color contrasts.
