Jarosz Zbigniew GOSTWICKI (1906-2003)
Painter, educator, conservator. Studied in 1926-1930 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow - under Prof. Teodor Axentowicz and Fryderyk Pautsch. In 1931 he also spent several weeks at the Paris branch of the Academy, studying under Prof. J. Pankiewicz. After returning to Cracow, he became associated with the "Group of Ten" (it also included Z. Pronaszko, M. Samlicki, T. Seweryn, A. Bunsch, T. Grott, V. Hofman, among others). At the same time, he was friends with members of the so-called first Krakow Group, including A. Marczynski and H. Wańek. After the war, he exhibited many times with members of the so-called second Krakow Group, reactivated in 1957, but did not become a member of the group. Among other things, he had a solo exhibition at the Krzysztofory Gallery in 1968, as well as many others, mainly in the Cracow community and in Zakopane. His painting, in the interwar period representing the current of post-impressionism, after the war took on abstract forms, similar to matter painting.
