Biography
From 1946 to 1950, he studied at the Department of Sculpture at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Sopot and Poznań. After graduating, he became a lecturer at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań. He was a member of the avant-garde group of Poznań artists known as 4F+R. He abandoned traditional sculptural materials early on. He created sculptures from charred wood and welded iron. Welded steel and other metals, in particular, became his primary medium of artistic expression. During this period, he created such sculptures as *Exhumed*, *Hiroshima*, and *The Sunken Battleship*. The sculpture *The Horsemen*, depicting Bolesław Chrobry and Otto III, was exhibited at Expo 2000 in Hanover. In the early 1970s, he settled in Rybitwy on Lake Lednickie, where he had his studio. He also worked in applied sculpture. Monumental lamps of his design stand in front of the Zachęta in Warsaw. In Poznań, he created decorative railings for the Ballet School, City Hall, and the Arsenal.
