A novel by William John Locke written in a social and psychological vein, combining humor with reflections on human nature and the individual’s place in society. The titular Septimus is an eccentric protagonist, detached from everyday life, whose story serves as a pretext for exploring interpersonal relationships, the conflict between idealism and practicality, and the characters’ inner transformations. The author narrates the story with lightness and irony, while at the same time painting an insightful portrait of the English intelligentsia of the early 20th century.
