Vidal Toreyo - METAMORPHOPSIA - abstract deformation
The METAMORPHOPSIA series of paintings are abstract deformations. What does the expression metamorphopsia mean? Why did the painter name his series of works this way? Metamorphopsia is a general term for various disorders of visual perception. They can arise from disorders of the central nervous system - objects seen can be perceived as altered.
Vidal Toreyo's paintings go beyond mere deformation. The artist invites the viewer to play. Viewing his paintings is a game. The image is real, but the associations associated with it come from conjecture or guesswork. The viewer's brain seeks associations, evaluates drawing, colors and tones. The perceived image changes and adjusts to associations and memories. And each viewer deforms what he sees in front of him into his own image, creates his own metamorphopsis in his mind.
