Teodor Gajewski - sculptor associated with Bydgoszcz, younger brother of painter Franciszek Gajewski, took part in the Greater Poland Uprising. He was educated at the State School of Artistic Industry in Bydgoszcz (1920-1923), under the guidance of sculptors Prof. Jan Wysocki and Feliks Giecewicz, and then at the State Industrial School. From 1930 he belonged to the Association of Pomeranian Visual Artists, from 1932 to the Group of Pomeranian Visual Artists, while from 1936 to the Group of Bydgoszcz Visual Artists, and participated in environmental exhibitions held in Bydgoszcz and other centers, including Warsaw's Zachęta, Poznan and Torun. He created both monumental sculptures (monuments) and intimate sculptures, including medallions, in plaster, clay, wood, marble and bronze. He designed a monument to fallen Poles in St. Hilaire le Grand, France, for which he received a first prize. He was friends with sculptor Peter Triebler (1898-1952), with whom he shared a studio in the early 1930s. The offered sculpture presents the second current of the artist's work, characterized by expression, expressiveness of facial features and emphasis on the psychological features of the model.
Condition of preservation very good. An antiquarian rarity.
