About the Author
Grzegorz Pecuch was born on January 23, 1923 in Florynce near Nowy Sącz. He graduated from the State High School of Visual Arts in Zakopane in 1950. He studied at the Department of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where he received his diploma in 1956 in the sculpture studio of Prof. Marian Wnuk. From 1955 to 1976 he was a sculpture teacher at the Antoni Kenar State High School of Fine Arts in Zakopane. He created sculptures mainly in wood, less frequently in ceramics, plaster, clay, stone and even plasticine. He has been exhibiting since 1957. He participated in more than 100 group exhibitions at home and abroad (USA, Slovakia, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Norway, former USSR countries, Sweden, Spain, Belgium, Austria, Netherlands, Hungary). He had 25 solo exhibitions at home and abroad. He has realized several monuments. He had a number of awards and prizes to his credit, including the Stanislaw Witkiewicz Award. He created works full of poetry, fresh and modern. He was fond of color, and his works are connected with their surroundings by going outside always perfectly balanced static forms, through openwork clearances passing through the whole mass, incorporating the surrounding external space into its action. Numerous works by the artist are in many museums and private collections in Europe and America. Grzegorz Pecuch died on November 24, 2008 in Zakopane.
