Woodcut depicting an elegant figure of a woman in a richly patterned kimono holding a book. The author Utagawa Kunisada, also known as Toyokuni III, was one of the most prominent representatives of the Utagawa school and was a highly regarded creator of the bijin-ga (paintings of beautiful women) and kabuki-e (portraits of actors). The signature "豊国画" (Toyokuni ga) and publisher's marks are printed on the right side of the leaf. This print also bears an inscription identifying the depicted figure
