About the author: Wojciech Grabowski (15.04.1850 Zwierzyniec (Cracow) - 2.06.1885 Lviv) respected and popular draughtsman, illustrator and painter. In 1866-1871 he studied at the School of Fine Arts (SSP) in Cracow, and in 1871-1872 in Munich (and possibly Rome). He began working as a magazine illustrator in Vienna in 1872 and returned to Poland that year, living in Lviv, Przemyśl and Krakow, among other places. Initially he preferred fantasy themes in his compositions, and then ethnographic themes known to him from his wanderings in Galician villages and towns, where he portrayed the life of the Galician people; from 1875 he worked with "Kłosy" and later also with "Biesiada Literacka" and "Tygodnik Ilustrowany"; see SAP vol. 2 pp. 450-451, supra Polski słownik biograficzny (PSB) vol. 8 pp. 516
