Antoni Trzeszczkowski - (1902-1977) is an artist who unfairly remains in the shadow of more famous battle painters, despite the fact that his work is on a par with the best representatives of the genre. His paintings are characterized by extraordinary dynamism, precision of drawing and an exceptional sense of movement, especially in his depictions of horses and battle scenes. Passion and deep knowledge of the military can be seen in his paintings, which makes them not only works of art, but also valuable historical reconstructions.

Trzeszczkowski took part in the Polish-Bolshevik war in 1920, which shaped his artistic interests. The struggle he endured became not only the subject of his works, but also the inspiration for rendering the drama of those events in his paintings. After completing his military service, he devoted himself to painting, first in Czestochowa and later in Warsaw.

His works are characterized by exceptional attention to historical detail - from uniforms and armaments to the precise depiction of battle scenes. One can see in them his fascination with the Napoleonic era and the 1920 war, which he depicted in a way that was not only spectacular, but also extremely faithful to reality. Unlike many battle painters, who focused on the overall visual effect, Trzeszczkowski was an expert on the military and paid great attention to every detail.

Although often compared to Wojciech Kossak, he had his own recognizable style. His paintings exude energy and movement, while remaining subtle in their handling of light and composition. He was excellent at capturing the dynamics of battles and the emotions of soldiers, which makes his works not just historical illustrations, but true stories of heroism and combat.

In addition to painting, Trzeszczkowski was also involved in illustration. His drawings, published, among others, in The Infantry's Book of Glory (1939), are as elaborate as his oil paintings. They testify to his extraordinary ability to capture details and narrate stories.

Despite the high artistic level of his works, he has not earned his rightful place in the pantheon of Polish historical painters. His oeuvre, though appreciated by experts in military art, still awaits wider recognition. His works are not only an aesthetic record of history, but also a testament to his talent and passion for portraying Polish heroism.
