Lot information
"A wooden frame made of birch wood, created in the art workshop of Princess Maria Tenisheva (1867-1928) in Talashkin, an important center of Russian artistic craftsmanship at the beginning of the 20th century. The frame is characterized by handwork and rich carving. The upper part is decorated with stylized zoomorphic motifs, bearing the spirit of art nouveau and Russian folk art. The Talashkin workshops combined historical references with modernist tendencies, thereby became the Russian equivalent of the Wiener Werkstätte or the British Arts and Crafts movement. The Talashkino workshops became famous not only in the Russian Empire, but also in Western Europe. In 1909, they were presented at an exhibition in Topič's Salon in Prague, where they attracted a great response, and a number of objects exhibited there subsequently entered Czech collections."more photos
