A variant of the painting in the West Bohemian Gallery in Pilsen. loan label of the National Gallery in Prague on the back. expert opinion: PhDr. Šárka Leubnerová, author of the monograph and exhibitions of the painter Piepenhagen Lot information
August Bedřich Piepenhagen, an important representative of Czech romantic landscape painting of German origin, created a work that perfectly describes his characteristic style - a dreamy atmosphere, soft light and melancholy. This winter motif depicts a winding path through a snowy landscape leading to a building with a sacred character, surrounded by bare trees. In the foreground we see an old trunk, gently modeled by the light, and two figures in the distance, which enliven the composition. The painting shows Piepenhagen's masterful work with a color palette that uses muted tones and the contrast of light and shadow to create a calm and contemplative mood. The work represents a mature phase of the author's work, in which he achieved full harmony between the romantic conception of the landscape and the realistic rendering of detail.more photos
