Oil/Doubled Canvas, 41.5 x 57.5 cm Signature p.d.: 'Bronislaw Abramowicz'
Bronislaw Abramowicz was born on December 22, 1837 in Załuchów, Volhynia, to a family of Polish nobility, and died on July 17, 1912 in Krakow, where he was buried in Rakowicki Cemetery. He was initially educated at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts (1858-1861), then continued his studies in Munich and Vienna, where he won an honorable mention for his painting "Love Drink" In 1863 he took an active part in the January Uprising as adjutant to General Marian Langiewicz. After returning to Krakow, he continued his studies with Jan Matejko and created historical, religious, hunting and portrait paintings; he earned the title of honorary member of the Vienna Kunstverein for "Uczta u Wierzynka."
In later years, he concentrated on the conservation of sacred monuments - restoring, among other things, the stall in St. Mary's Church, the wings of the triptych in St. Idzi and the painting of Our Lady of Sorrows.
