oil on canvas; framed

Against an impressively atmospheric, cloudy sky, the rocky coastal landscape of the scene appears in an atmospheric light.
The saint is depicted here in simple clothing speaking to a fisherman who is handing him his catch. Andrew's patronage of fishermen and fishmongers draws on his own origins: Together with his brother Simon Peter, he was visited by Jesus while casting their fishing nets and the first to be called to be his followers. The wailing women in the background add a dramatic aspect to the scene.
