Italian, Late 16th or 17th Century, Figure Studies for The Visitation

This expressive drawing is a study for the biblical scene of the Visitation, depicting the meeting of the Virgin Mary and her cousin Elizabeth. The artist has used red chalk and graphite to quickly capture the dynamic poses and emotional exchange between the figures.
