Biography
He studied art in Wrocław in 1920–21 at the Academy of Art and Applied Arts under Otto Müller, and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków under Józef Pankiewicz. From 1921 to 1924, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków in the studios of Józef Mehoffer, Ignacy Pieńkowski, and Józef Pankiewicz. In 1923, he joined the circle of Pankiewicz’s former students who founded the Paris Committee. After completing his studies, he lived in Paris. He participated in exhibitions of the Kapists at the Galerie Zak in Paris and the Galerie Moos in Geneva. His work was influenced by French Impressionism and the paintings of Cézanne and Bonnard. He was the initiator of the Colorist movement in Polish painting. His work was dominated by the themes of still life, the nude, and landscape.
