Paul Bril,
ca. 1553/54 Antwerp - 1626 Rome, attributed
LANDSCAPE WITH BAY, SHIPS, TOWERS AND SCENERY
Oil on copper.
27 x 35 cm.
As is the case in all of Bril’s paintings, the viewer is introduced to a world in which exciting landscapes are combined with narrative elements. This painting style is also present in his other works, such as his Rocky River Landscape with Hermit (Koller, 2923), Forum Romanum (1600 Gemäldegalerie Dresden) or The Tower of Babel (Alte Pinakothek Munich).
