gouache on paper, 1933, 34.5 x 50 cm, signed and dated in lower right corner: "S Jaxa | 1933".
The work shows the right bank of the Dead Vistula River in Gdansk - the buildings of the former Schichau Shipyard: warehouses, depots and waterfront structures. The horizon line, to the right of the composition, is dominated by the characteristic silhouette of a powerful hammerhead crane, known among Danzigers as "Grandfather" before the war. This monumental crane, erected in 1914, has become one of the recognizable points of the port's skyline - almost a symbolic sign of an era when Gdansk was one of the most important shipbuilding centers in the region.
