On the back an exhibition sticker from the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts in Warsaw with a handwritten description of the work.
The painting depicts Stanisław Budz-Mroz (1858-1943) playing the goat - the most famous bagpiper of Podhale, an icon of highland culture at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and the interwar period. "The Last Bagpiper," as he was sometimes called, was often a model for Polish painters including Apoloniusz Kedzierski, Stanislaw Galek, Jozef Chlebus and Wladyslaw Skoczylas.
