Born January 29, 1866 in Lviv, to a landed gentry family, and remained there until his death on May 5, 1946. He studied in 1883-1885 in Krakow under Władysław Łuszczkiewicz and Florian Cynk, and then continued his education at the academies in Vienna (1885-87) and Munich (1887-89) After his studies, he traveled for artistic purposes to Paris, Italy, Spain, Morocco, Crimea, and the United States, among other places. He was a co-founder of the "Young Poland" Artists' Association in Lviv and ran his own Free Academy of Art from 1903-1914. He specialized in battle and historical painting (e.g. "Attack of the Hussars at Chocim", "Battle of Zadwórz" - today in the Museum of the Polish Army), illustrations to works by Sienkiewicz and Słowacki, landscapes, portraits, religious scenes and stained glass and wall decorations, including those for the Lviv theater and the Latin Cathedral.
