Michal Batory was born in 1959 in Lodz, Poland. He studied graphic design with a specialty in posters at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz. In 1987 the artist settled permanently in Paris, where he first worked for graphic design agencies, and since 1994 he has been active as a freelance graphic artist, working with major institutions and companies in Poland and France. Batory creates posters, covers, illustrations and entire graphic lines for, among others, Théâtre national de la Colline, Centre Georges Pompidou, Ircam, Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie, Bibliothèque nationale de France, Radio France, Larousse, Belin or Tree of Babel publishing houses. The artist mainly illustrates events and publications related to the world of culture and art: dance, theater, literature or music. His posters are dominated by a kind of poetry, steeped in surrealism, which makes these works unforgettable, thus inscribing them in the collective consciousness of the public.
