Bishop Michał – Banknotes, My Passion.
Volume I: 1939–1943,
Kielce 2024,
ISBN 9788362509348
The publication consists of 111 pages in B5 format, bound in softcover, and features over 120 color photographs, many of which are enlarged. It is a collection of essays devoted to various aspects of the production and issuance of Polish banknotes.
The author discusses in detail the issuance of banknotes during the German occupation, listing known serial numbers and analyzing their size, color, typeface, and font style. A significant portion of the book is devoted to counterfeits—both “ordinary” ones and those created by the resistance movement, both in Poland and among the émigré community in London.
Separate chapters cover the little-known topic of banderole notes from the occupation period, as well as banknotes issued by the Bank of Poland in exile—including a detailed breakdown of known series and the number of banknotes in each. A separate section of the book is devoted to Wehrmacht camp vouchers (Lagergeld, 1939–1945), presenting a catalog of these vouchers with descriptions of the series, prefix numbers, font sizes, and color schemes.
