From the introduction: "The war has shown that for real and effective communication between infantry and artillery it is necessary for the officers of one weapon to know the ways of fighting and the means of action of the other weapon. An artillery officer who does not know how the infantry develops, advances and fights, cannot provide it under various conditions with the support it should provide. An infantry officer who is unfamiliar with artillery will not always know what assistance he can demand from artillery and, as a result, will not receive it in a timely manner; or he will demand tasks from the artilleryman that the artilleryman cannot fulfill. Hence the lack of separation, the failure to act in close communication and, as a result, the lack of mutual cooperation. Therefore, studying the regulations of other weapons is an absolute necessity for officers. Unfortunately, artillery regulations, overflowing with technical details, often put off infantry officers, who do not understand these details and who, moreover, do not need to know them. In the face of the ambiguities they encounter, they do not hesitate to abandon the study of the regulations and cease to be interested in the technical side of artillery, imagining that a vague knowledge in general of artillery tactics is sufficient...."
