A folder (made of cardboard, heavily worn) containing a large number of packages and labels from various companies (mainly Polish) that produce candy. A large portion (especially those from points b and c) appears to be design drafts, showing no signs of use (no creases or signs of having been unfolded), or working drafts (some are at various stages of detail refinement, e.g., without notes). Some were added later, loose, not pasted into the album, and generally also show no signs of use (only a few have folds or creases). Not all of them are shown in the photos!
The collection includes:
a) Labels and stickers from the Anglas Confectionery Factory in Gdańsk (Oliwa), likely from around 1929—a total of about 361 stickers on pages from the Anglas Album (which is incomplete and in poor condition)
b) Numerous (approx. 250 different) box labels/stickers pasted onto lined sheets, including both pre-war designs marked “E. Wedel” (sometimes “E. Wedel and Son”), as well as post-war ones such as those from Z.P.C. “July 22” Warsaw (or export versions labeled E. Wedel)
c) Labels from Z.P.C. Bałtyk, Gdańsk—approx. 58 pieces
d) Labels from Z.P.C. “Syrena,” Warsaw—13 pieces
e) Labels from Z.P.C. “Wawel” Kraków—5 pieces
f) Labels from Z.P.C. “Społem” in Włocławek—5 pieces
g) Labels from Z.P.C. “Odra” in Brzeg—3 pieces
h) Labels from Z.P.C. “Riwal” in Leszno—4 pieces
i) Labels from Z.P.C. “Olza” in Cieszyn—4 pieces
j) Labels from Z.P.C. “Pomorski” in Milanówek—3 pieces
k) Labels from Z.P.C. “Pszczółka” in Lublin—2 pieces
l) Labels from Z.P.C. “Optima” in Łódź—2 pieces
m) individual labels from Z.P.C. “Gryf” in Szczecin, “Goplana” in Poznań, “Kopernik” in Toruń, and “Kaliszanka” in Kalisz—4 pieces
n) From Razem Coopexim: 5 loose foil wrappers of the same design
o) Hungarian labels from Budapesti Csokoldegyar—11 pieces
Total: 361 Anglas album stickers and approximately 370 labels (packaging, papers, foil wrappers, and stickers). Among the creators of various designs, the signature “Anil.” appears several times; perhaps this collection is connected to the design studio hidden behind this signature (or is it a specific person?).
Summary—a unique collection of labels, mainly from Polish confectionery companies, likely from a design studio (or a private graphic artist/designer of such packaging). Similar label collections usually consist of used packaging, rather than “draft” or “design” versions.
And now, a detailed list:
a) Labels and stickers from the Anglas Confectionery Factory in Gdańsk (Oliwa), likely from around 1929. Half of the front cover and the entire back cover of a collector’s album titled *Anglas Album* have been preserved. The entire item is in fairly poor condition; the pages for affixing the stickers have tears and missing sections (one is torn in half), and the stickers/labels are worn, sometimes with spots. The loose pages inside contain:
- Series 1 (nationalities), 2 sheets with 67 of 72 stickers (nos. 1–72) preserved (nos. 9, 30, 37, 40, 62 missing);
- Series 3 (animals): 3 sheets (labels numbered 1–100? Space for 108, but the numbers are smudged at the end, if they were ever there at all), 82 of 100 present (plus one torn in half, loose);
- Series IV: Famous People, 3 sheets (labels numbered 1–99, traces where No. 100 was peeled off, space for 108, but the numbers at the end are smudged, if they were ever there at all), 95 out of 100 present (Nos. 46, 47, 48, 96, and 100 missing);
- Series V: Sports – 2 sheets out of 3, from positions 1–36 – all preserved; the second sheet from positions 73–99 (space for 108, but the numbers at the end are smudged, if they were there at all), but numbers 84, 89, 90, and 100 are missing;
- Series VI (Means of Transportation), sheet with items 1–36: 26 out of 36 preserved.
Banner Series Nos. 1–100: 2 out of 3 sheets preserved (one cut in half) with numbers 1–30 and 67–100; 32 out of 34 stickers; items 90 and 91 are missing;
A total of 361 stickers.
b) Numerous (approx. 250 different) labels/box stickers affixed to lined sheets, including both pre-war designs marked “E. Wedel” (sometimes “E. Wedel – 22 Lipca Confectionery Industry Plant, State-Owned Enterprise), with descriptions of labels, stickers, packaging, paper inserts, and foils (aluminum and plastic) on subsequent pages, or loose, often without any signs of folding or unfolding, as if they were designs or templates from a print shop rather than used packaging; sometimes glued at the corners, smaller ones intact.
On individual packages, there are graphic marks of their designers, including Atelier Plakat, OH JW (a linked monogram with an “O” encircling an “H,” and the letters “JW” in the center—perhaps Jana Wedel?), Z SS G—perhaps Zakład Graficzny SS (?)—GM, Anil, but the names of the people responsible have not been determined.
