Distillery
Auchentoshan is a Scottish distillery located near Glasgow in the Lowlands. Founded in 1823, its location near the urban agglomeration and the River Clyde facilitates distribution. The name 'Auchentoshan' comes from the Gaelic language and means 'corner of the field', referring to the proximity of the Kilpatrick Hills.
The distillery is known for its triple distillation technique, which is unusual for Scottish distilleries, the vast majority of distilleries use double distillation . This method gives the distillate a finer and lighter character, typical of the Lowlands region. Auchentoshan is therefore often recommended as an ideal entry point for those exploring the world of Scotch still.
Auchentoshan today belongs to the Beam Suntory portfolio and still uses its traditional triple distillation, making it one of Scotland's unique distilleries.
Bottle
Auchentoshan Aged 18 Years is a single malt whisky, bottled as a limited edition in 2006. The whisky is matured in a combination of first and second-fill sherry casks (1st and 2nd Fill Oloroso Sherry Butts), giving it fullness and complexity, with sherry notes that are well balanced—neither overly sweet nor heavy.
Nose: Rich notes of dried fruit such as raisins and figs, complemented by vanilla, spice, and a hint of roasted nuts.
Taste: Full and warm, with a blend of sherry sweetness, dark fruit, chocolate, and subtle spicy undertones.
Finish: Long and complex, with lingering notes of dried fruit, spice, and subtle woodiness.
