Distillery description
Convalmore, established in 1893-1894, is the fourth of the Dufftown Distilleries in Speyside. After its original owners went bankrupt, it was acquired by W.P. Lowrie and later by James Buchanan, who primarily used its distillate for blending, limiting its visibility as a single malt. The whisky was known for its unique waxy character and fruity core, similar to Clynelish. Closed in 1985 after being sold to William Grant & Sons, Convalmore remains a coveted chapter in Scotch whisky history, appealing to collectors and enthusiasts alike. Bottle description
Convalmore 1975 is a single malt whisky bottled by independent distillery Ian Macleod as part of their Dun Bheagan series. Each bottling from this range is limited to a small number of bottles, often sourced from lesser-known or closed distilleries, such as Convalmore Distillery, which closed in 1985. The whisky was distilled in December 1975 and bottled in 2006 after spending 30 years aging in a hogshead cask.Nose: Rich and complex, with notes of dried fruit, honey, vanilla, and soft wood, typical of long aging in hogshead casks.
Taste: Smooth and balanced, with notes of fruit, spices, vanilla, and soft wood that blend harmoniously.
Finish: Medium-long, with a pleasant aftertaste of fruit, spice, and subtle woodiness.
The auctioned bottle is one of 264 bottles from cask #3758, making it a prized collector's item due to its limited release and the origin from a closed distillery.
