The most famous work of Charles Louis Monteskius (b. 1689, d. 1755), French philosopher, jurist, freethinker and writer of the Age of Enlightenment. Volume three of three in a set containing the last part of his most important treatise. "On the Spirit of Laws" is a synthesis of the forms of government known to the Author, leading to one of the most important political science discoveries of all time. Montesquieu formulated in this work the famous principle of the tri-partition of power. He divides it into executive, legislative and judicial, with the essence of the division being the separation and separateness of these powers. There is an extensive table of contents at the beginning, and an even larger index to all three volumes at the end.
