Antoni Chrząszczewski. Memoirs of a Potocki Family Official from Tulczyn. Wrocław, Warsaw, Kraków, Gdańsk, 1976. Dimensions: 20x14.5 cm, 236 pp., [3]. Slight wear on the cover; in good condition.
The introduction states: Antoni Chrząszczewski’s writings play a special role in our memoir literature. The author, who was associated with the Potocki family and the Tulczyn estate for nearly his entire long life, knew better than anyone else the behind-the-scenes details of the events unfolding at that time surrounding Stanisław Szczęsny Potocki. Despite his modest social standing and low-ranking position, Chrząszczewski was an educated and well-read man, clearly standing out from his peers at the same or significantly higher levels of the bureaucratic hierarchy. Of his writings—and he had considerable literary ambitions—only the *Diary* is of value today, primarily as a valuable historical and social source for the southeastern lands of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
Of course, we find in it many details from the life of Zofia Potocka. (see item 47)
