From the opinion of PhDr. Sarka Leubnerova: "City by the Alpine Lake" is an idealized image of a mountain lake landscape. It captures a massive fortress on the shore of a lake, in the distance we can see a city, with tall mountains rising around. The viewer's attention is drawn to the building in the foreground, the hustle and bustle of the coast and the silvery reflections on the water surface. Even the plastically modeled massif of the mountain range is presented with great bravura, the sovereign painting with quick brushstrokes in rich pastes is absolutely brilliant. The colors of the landscape are tuned to the warmer tones of the setting sun, which are emphasized by the play of reds above the horizon, in contrast to the cool blue tones of the lake's waters. Ullik enlivened the scene with a rich staff and the lake with several sailboats, which, together with the peaceful early evening atmosphere, enhanced the impression of an undisturbed summer idyll. "City by the Alpine Lake" is an example of Ullik's work from the seventies of the 18th century. The painter was able to convincingly capture the landscape and the atmosphere of the mist, the masterful play with light and color was underlined by a mature painter's handwriting.
