German painter, initially worked at the

Villeroy & Boch porcelain factory in Mettlach. He was a self-taught painter. From 1885 he lived and worked in Düsseldorf. In his work, mainly landscape, he referred to Dutch painting, using motifs taken from Dutch and Norwegian landscapes.
