Franz Xavier LAMPI (1792-1852). He continued his education, which began with his father, Jan Baptist Lampi, at the Vienna academy. He left that city around 1814 and found himself in Poland via Hungary, where he painted portraits. From Warsaw he traveled for work to other foreign and Polish cities, including Krakow, where he stayed in 1817-18. In 1840 he advertised in the Krakow Gazeta as a drawing teacher. Among his students were P. Michalowski and W. Stattler. He gained fame as a portrait painter. He also painted religious and mythological compositions, as well as fantastic landscapes, sometimes with staffage set in conventional scenery and romantic moods. Museum collections include The Fire of a Ship (MN in Kielce), watercolor Ruins of a Castle in Ogrodzieniec (MNK), in Lublin Landscape with a Waterfall and Rocky Landscape with Castle Ruins, MNW - two mountain Landscapes with a Waterfall, Romantic Landscape, Castaways at the Shore of the Sea, Rescue of Castaways.
