Biography
Painter and educator, associated with Lodz. Graduate of the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Łódź (now the Władysław Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts), where he received a diploma with distinction from the Department of Clothing in 1970. He studied painting in the studio of Zdzislaw Glowacki. Since 1971, he taught at his alma mater, where he served, among other positions, as Vice-Dean of the Department of Graphics (1981-1984), and in 1992 he was awarded the title of Full Professor of Visual Arts. He also taught at the PWSFTviT in Lodz and at the Radio and Television Department of the University of Silesia in Katowice.
He was involved not only in painting, but also in graphic design, costume design, exhibition design and set design - he cooperated with film studios (including the film The Ring of Princess Anne), theaters and museums. He has received numerous awards for his teaching activities. Recipient of a scholarship from the prestigious The Pollock-Krasner Foundation in New York.
Author of many solo exhibitions, including in Lodz, Warsaw, Wroclaw, Bonn, Cologne and New Delhi. His works are in public collections, including the Museum of Art in Lodz, the National Museum in Warsaw, the Ludwig Museum in Cologne, The Pollock-Krasner Foundation in New York and the CCA Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw.
At the center of his painting work is color - intense, pure, often contrasting. Bigoszewski built compositions based on signs and geometric forms - squares, rectangles, outlines resembling the shadow of a human silhouette. The layering of colors and forms created a space with the illusion of depth, organizing the painting according to a well-defined hierarchy and rhythm. The artist's painting objects went beyond the traditional two-dimensionality - he treated the canvas as a three-dimensional object, also incorporating frames and edges into the composition. His works are characterized by clarity, formal discipline and a strong emotional charge, expressed through intense colors and the structure of the painting.
