UNC/UNC. Medalier: Pyotr Stadnitsky (on obverse, П • С in the truncation of the shoulder). A mid-19th century copy from dies by Kalashnikov, which themselves replicate the original dies by Müller. Diakov 28.6. Rare. Obv.: Laureate bust of Peter I in armor and cloak, facing right. Inscription around: PETRVS . ALEXII . FIL • D . G • RVSS. IMP • М • DVX MOSCOVIÆ • (Peter, son of Alexis, by the grace of God Russian Emperor and Grand Duke of Moscow). Rev.: Minerva seated on arms with spear and shield inscribed: SARTO | LÖWEN | HAUPT | CVM RESI | DVIS (Levenhaupt captured with his forces). To the left, the allegory of the Dnieper River in the form of a reclining bearded old man with an urn pouring water. Inscription around: OPERIS VICTORIA FINIS (Victory is the end of effort). Below the truncation: AD PEREVOLOCAM | 03 • IVN • MDCCIX • (At Perevolochna, 3 June 1709 – note: error in the date; actual event was 30 June). This medal commemorates the surrender of General Adam Ludwig Lewenhaupt’s Swedish corps to Russian forces near the Dnieper River after the Battle of Poltava. The event marked the final collapse of Charles XII's army and confirmed Russian ascendancy in the Great Northern War.
