Delzanno reports that only 2 specimens have been documented as sold; Hildebrand 18. Obv.: Draped and cuirassed bust of Charles XII of Sweden right, wearing long curled periwig. Inscription around: CAROLVS· REDIVIVVS· (Charles, reborn). Rev.: Radiant phoenix rising from flames atop a globe. Inscription around: SIBIMET·SVPERSTES· (He survives for himself). In exergue: Suecis·redditus / d 14·dec·1697· (Returned to the Swedes / 14 December 1697). This medal commemorates the coronation of Karl XII, which took place in the great cathedral of Stockholm (Storkyrkan) on 14 December 1697. The imagery of the phoenix symbolizes renewal, continuity, and divine favor upon the young monarch. Likely engraved by Carl Gustaf Hartman, this piece forms part of the Karlsteen school’s early production.
