Inscription around: ЗА СОДѢЙСТBIЕ КЪ УЛУЧШЕНIЮ КОННОЗАВОДСТВА ВЪ РОССIИ (For contribution to the improvement of horse breeding in Russia). Rev.: Russian Imperial coat of arms. Inscription along the right rim: АВЕНИРЪ ГРИЛИХЕСЪ РѢЗ. (Avenir Griliches engraved). The medal was instituted under Alexander II as a reward for individuals and institutions who significantly contributed to the improvement of horse breeding in the Russian Empire. Horse breeding held great strategic and economic importance, providing quality mounts for the army, transport, and agriculture.
