Lot information
This painting by Josef Istler from 1967 is an important example of the artist's experimental approach to painting and assemblage technique. Istler, one of the key representatives of Czech surrealism and informal, uses here a combination of oil paints and structured surfaces, thereby creating a work with a deep spatial effect and sensory plasticity. The textures and relief in the painting evoke organic forms that seem to emerge from a dark, green background, creating an impression of movement and mysterious energy. The work is an example of his fascination with matter, the process of creation and the possibilities of expressing invisible structures beneath the surface of things, which is typical of the author's work of the 1960s.
