Magdalena Szilke (born in 1983 in Warsaw)
Szilke studied at the Eastel Painting Department of Fine Arts Academy in Warsaw where she lives and works. She made her diploma work in the Painting Studio of professor Stanisław Baj and recived the diploma with Dean's distinction. The artist works using various techniques: watercolour, ink, batik, arras, embroidery, felt, ceramics, glass mosaic. The oil on canvas paitings remains her favorite way of expression.
Magdalenas Szilke's works swing on a border of abstraction and depictive painting. Her inspirations may be so elusive as light, shadow, wind, depht, temperature or much more substantial like scenery: meadow's texture, vegetation, minerals. The frequent usage of moss and lichens integrated into canvans' surfaces, fuses the art and reality together. Sometimes contours of abstraction and landscape are blurred. All the motives can be joing by the strong synthesis of the object as well in cmposition, as in range of colours. The colour always remains a starting point. It appears in reminiscence of view or in certain emotions accompaning this artist.
The artist took a part in dozens of individual and collective exhibitions. Her works are spread away into many private collections in the world ( USA, France, Australia).
