Bitkin 895 R. Rare.
Issued to commemorate the consecration of the memorial chapel erected on the Borodino battlefield, the site of Russia's defining clash with Napoleon during the Patriotic War of 1812. The chapel was inaugurated in the 1880s under the patronage of the Imperial family, as part of a broader effort to memorialize Russian heroism and sacrifice.
The structure, crowned with a gilded dome and Orthodox cross, stands on the presumed command post of General Mikhail Kutuzov and serves as a symbol of national unity, military valor, and sacred memory.
