The second issue of Gdańsk's municipal groszy coins featuring a portrait of Batory.
The coin has a distinct mint luster, a dark patina, and slight die flaws.
Starting in 1579, the design of Gdańsk groszy coins changed. The reverse, which had continued the style of the siege groszy, gave way to a Renaissance-style shield bearing the coat of arms of Gdańsk; the royal portrait also changed.
A variant without stars in the rim.
