Biography
He studied at the State Higher School of Fine Arts (PWSSP) in Łódź from 1946 to 1947 under Władysław Strzemiński. He continued his studies in Gdańsk and then at the Academy of Fine Arts (ASP) in Warsaw under Eugeniusz Eibisch (1951–1955). He received his diploma in 1956. He taught there from 1962 to 1963, and subsequently at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and at UMCS in Lublin (1963–78). From 1978 onward, he returned to the Department of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In 1987, he was awarded the title of professor. After a period of “informel” art and experiments with material painting, beginning around 1957, he began creating the plaster reliefs that are most characteristic of his work. The artist’s works are found in public and private collections in Poland and around the world.
