Oil on canvas; 40 x 50 cm Signed lower left: K. Shevchenko The original painting was created by Charles-Philogène Tschaggeny (1815–1894). The painter studied in the studios of Felicjan Kowarski and Tadeusz Pruszkowski at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw from 1928 to 1932. He mainly painted easel paintings—genre scenes and portraits. He designed stage sets for the Rozmaitości Theater from 1934 to 1935. He collaborated with the “Atlas” publishing house in Lviv and contributed illustrations to the “Kurier Poranny.” He is the author of portraits of Ignacy Mościcki and Edward Rydz-Śmigły, and created a series titled “Polish Regional Types” and “Semitic Types.” He exhibited both in Poland and abroad.
