Pair of mesh chairs Proj. Henryk Sztaba, 1968, for Społem
Biography
Henryk Sztaba, was born in Ponidzie, a region of Poland in Kielce province. He spent most of his life in the Srebrna Góra area, where he manufactured furniture at a local plant.
For more than 30 years he worked at the Społem Technical Services Production Plant. Interestingly, he was employed there first as a production engineer, and later took a director's position. He designed the mesh chair in response to the need for outdoor consumption. Initially, the chairs were part of the furnishings of café gardens with tables, arranged by the barobus. Then they began to appear in fashionable cafes and restaurants. And so they became famous all over the country.
"The simpler the design, if it meets the technical, artistic, strength conditions, the better it is." - said Henryk Sztaba about his work - "The ideal for me would be something that would please everyone, and would not be cumbersome to use, so that it would not be susceptible to damage and would be easy to move, and not much, so that it would also be suitable to be incorporated into some corner, into some room. This is also a challenge."
