A small group of people is gathered on the beach around the master. He is the cosmic principle, the creator of all visible and invisible things.
Indeed, the wonders of the earth and the sky are only a small manifestation of his true splendor, yet they are not elements separate from his identity.
This means that those who are fascinated by woods, mountains, and clouds have no need to go to church, for they are meeting the Creator face to face, without intermediaries. Not by chance, the master himself declares in the Bible: “Wherever one prays, there is a church.” Now, the contemplation of natural magic or of inspired artistic forms is a kind of prayer superior to prayer made of words.
The background is monochromatic to enhance the contrast with the brighter tones of the foreground. The warm gray of the sand is calibrated as a neutral tone and shifts slightly toward ochre—just enough not to interfere with the intensity of the more vivid colors of the figures.
Many believe that virtuosity in painting lies in producing works that look like photographs. But this is not so: hyperrealism is not difficult. The true challenge is to create magic in the chiaroscuro, in the composition, and in the harmony of colors.
The cross bursts open, generating flocks that merge with the clouds, delineating the celebrated “One.” All is One, and Christ himself affirms: “I and my Father are One.”
From a pictorial point of view, it is a considerable leap of imagination—truly remarkable. Yet S. Testa does not settle for predictable iconographies, especially in these vast canvases.
What might seem like a typical neoclassical religious scene becomes original through the cross that explodes in the background. Likewise, the vast sea and the cloud masses depart from every stereotype.
None of these figures exist on the internet: S. Testa uses photographs he himself has taken, often of friends. The central figures appear as devotees surrendered to the master, while the two men on the left are intrigued by his presence and approach him timidly, with a certain reverence. The child seated in the right corner observes the scene without much involvement, yet he will remember it well as an adult.
Salvatore Testa is a contemporary Italian artist born in Naples, whose artistic journey began in early childhood with a passion for drawing. After initially pursuing studies at an art high school and later in architecture, Testa eventually abandoned formal education to devote himself entirely to his artistic career, specializing as a poster designer and painter.
His prolific production includes over 6,000 figurative works sold worldwide, showcasing a versatile talent comparable to that of a symphonic composer and songwriter, despite being self-taught and unable to read musical scores.
Testa’s artistic achievements go beyond the visual arts: he has won numerous prestigious competitions in both art and musical composition. He is also deeply fascinated by research and knowledge beyond academic and scientific boundaries, which is reflected in his artistic exploration and creative pursuits.
